Nghêu rửa sạch rồi ngâm nước gạo, cắt thêm vài lát ớt cho nghêu nhả hết cát, rửa lại thật sạch. Cho nghêu vào nồi rồi đổ nước ngập nghêu, bật bếp luộc cho nghêu há miệng là tắt bếp.
Vớt nghêu ra cho nguội bớt sau đó nhặt lấy thịt nghêu, bóp sạch phần ruột nghêu cho ra đĩa. Chắt lấy nước nghêu trong. Cà chua rửa sạch cắt bỏ cuống rồi thái múi cau, hành tím băm nhỏ, hành lá và thì là thái khúc ngắn.
Đặt nồi lên bếp cùng với 1-2 muỗng canh dầu ăn đun cho dầu nóng thì cho hành tím vào phi cho thơm, tiếp theo bạn cho cà chua vào xào cho cà chua chín mềm. Cà chua đã mềm bạn cho thịt nghêu vào xào cùng, nêm 1/2 muỗng cà phê muối, 2 muỗng canh nước mắm, 1.5 muỗng canh đường cho vừa ăn, nếu ăn cay bạn có thể thêm vài lát ớt. Đổ nước nghêu vào cùng và nấu cho nồi canh sôi lên, nêm gia vị vừa miệng, cho hành lá và thì là vào nấu cho canh sôi trở lại là tắt bếp.
